What is Reiki?

What is Reiki … and what it is not

Reiki is

  • a form of subtle energy healing that flows through the practitioner
  • effective and safe for reducing stress, pain, sleeplessness
  • a gentle way to restore balance to your mind, body and spirit
  • equally well received by people, animals and all of nature
  • easily combined with other complementary healing systems
  • considered to have been a gift to founder Mikao Usui
  • Japanese in origin
  • documented as being effective in a growing number of studies
  • increasingly used in hospitals, clinics and other conventional treatment settings
  • used before, during and after surgery
  • easy to learn and to use for yourself and your loved ones
  • a flexible system, offered in person, or across a distance, or toward the past, present or future

Reiki is not

  • a religion
  • a belief system. It works whether you believe it or not
  • massage or bodywork
  • a cure for illness
  • Tibetan or Buddhist in origin
  • “alternative medicine,” but rather a complement to any conventional medical treatment
  • dependent on the practitioner being in the same room as you; it can be offered at a distance
